National Woman's Day - 9 August 2018

9 August 2018

Many people today confuse the term women's rights with National Women’s Day.

Women’s rights are something that every woman should be aware of and these rights should be equally enshrined to that of men as well. Woman’s and men’s rights are and should be the same, obviously applicable to the relevant gender. For example, women should be allowed to have high-quality health care which lessens the risk of death during pregnancy or during childbirth. These are part of the rights that are vital for women’s equality. Every woman has the right to live equally and freely from discrimination, no matter her sexuality or identity.

Nonetheless, today is National Women’s day, a day we celebrate in commemoration of the stand women took against the continued exploitation they faced. Women are members of the working class – in the workplace and at home – which brings me to a thought about our women in a so called “male dominated industry”.

We have a good few women who are blossoming in a culture which was thought to be only for men. Women all over the world share the same passion for automotive racing and styling as that of men. Here are a few ladies who have a high interest in cars:

Why do you love car?

"I've had her for so long and she's really been good to me. We had our ups and downs but she always comes through for me. I refer to my car as "she/her" because of her strong nature."

Whats is your dream car?

"I love any car that has that loud roar sound to it , you know the kind where you have to turn your head and look!! Just gives me that warm and excited feeling. The Lumina Bakkie is definitely one of my favorites."

Motivational message:
"Do not fear stepping into a "male dominated" field, go with what you're passionate about, most guys are extremely supportive. Don't hold back, stay confident and be you."

Car:
2008 Honda Civic Type R
Night Hawk Black

Why do you love your car?
"I was never interested in cars prior to my husband passing away 3 years ago. I needed to find something to focus on, something that was tangible, something that would distract me from life. I was only just learning to drive when I was widowed, so I put effort into getting my license and then a new car. I fell in love with the Type R just by the look, sound and speed, and made it my goal to get 1, it honestly gave me butterflies if I saw 1 driving past. There is something very therapeutic about getting into your car and just driving. I am addicted to speed, I don't race but I can stretch my baby's legs. I have Vtec feet and they don't sleep, haha. I've made friends with many people through the car community, being a car enthusiast comes from a place deep inside your heart."

What is your dream car?
"I don't just have a dream car, I have a dream garage. If I could, I would have a different car for every day of the week. But to answer this question, my all time dream car is an Audi R8 Spyder V10" 💕

Motivational Message:
"Don't be who the world wants you to be, find out who you are, and do it on purpose. Happy girls are the prettiest, and it has nothing to do with outward beauty."

Why do you love your car?
"I love my car simply because it is done up the way I want and as it is my daily drive I am quite happy with what I have. She is loud but not too loud and turns heads almost everywhere I go."

What is your dream car?
"I would love to one day drive an Audi S5 or even VW Touareg R-Line."

Motivational Message:
"To all the women out there, just know that we can do anything and everything men can do. Set your heart and stay true no matter what."

Battleship grey with white 15" spoons
Sleeve over kit ("which I am very lazy to adjust")
D16y9 with fully worked soch vtec head and intake

Short Ram induction kit

Why do you love your car?
"The reason why I love my car is that it has the ability to make a stressful day into something beautiful. Getting into my car, sitting behind the wheel, with the wind blowing in my face and the music playing loud can make any horrible day disappear. Everyone that does not understand my passion for cars, always asks me why don't I buy a newer car with less problems and my answer to them is always that there is nothing in this world that beats the feeling of working on your car and being able to say,'I did that'."

What is your dream car?
"My dream car is basically any car that I personally built from the ground up. A car where I can proudly say that I physically did something on it to make it faster or look better. If I have to choose a car, it would be a Honda NSX, a pitch black one!"

Motivational Message:
"To all the women out there, think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is just another stepping stone to greatness. So pray without ceasing, fight and put on the whole Armor of God and trust that everything will work out the way it should."

Name: Cleo Quickfall
Age: 27
Car's name: Skip 2.0
Car:
BMW 525i E39    (5 Series)
White with black trim
Stock standard motor
Car is loud because of free flow exhaust system
17 Inch Front Tyres/Rims with 14 or 15 inch rear for spinning
Runs on Dictator Management System with 3 different launch controls
Power Steering

Why do you love your car?
"I learnt to spin with my brother’s 5 series (The Ship) and got to love it. I Was the first female spinner in the country with a BIG 5 and still haven’t seen another female in such a car. The adrenaline rush my big car gives me is just awesome. The car is heavy and just knowing that I can handle her makes me able to get into any other car and handle it with ease. When travelling to other centres, my brother, Marc “The Kitchen King” Quickfall, and I go with his car and I get to spin there in his five series called "The Ship", and I love it!"

"My love for motor sport is far reaching, in that I get to run my older brother's mechanical business and I also co-host CapeTona Live, a motorsport Social Media TV show on Facebook which we host live every Monday night at 20h30. (CAPETONA LIVE) I also portray a character "Toni" on the show. I love any form of motorsport and enjoy the occasional opportunity of riding a bike. My inspirational women in the sport are Clare Vale and Tina Rossouw and I have great admiration for up and coming, 17 year old, Kayla Oliphant.

What is your dream car?
"VW Kombi - split front widescreen"

Motivational Message:
"Spinning has been known to be a male dominant sport, and I believe that we as women don't need to stand back in showcasing our skills and talent. Anything and everything in life is possible. If you can dream it, believe in it and have a passion for it, then there is nothing in this world that can stop you from achieving it. My mom was a source of strength. She showed me by example that women, regardless of how difficult life may get, CAN do it all."

"Life is a game, so play it and enjoy!" - Gloria Estefan

Name: Lisa Adams
Age: 28
Car:
2009 BMW 135i M Sport Coupe
White
Downpipe
OEM 18" Wheels

Why do you love your car?
"I have been through a few brands along the way and have always wanted to own a BMW. I have been waiting to find one that feels right and suits me. With this one, I love the aggressive look of the car, and how BMW managed to maintain that in a smaller design. I am completely obsessed with the twin turbo power and absolute German perfection I hear every time I start it up. I haven't owned a car yet that has felt this specific in the design on that power. The car is responsive and gives me the option to cruise and then also have a very quick switch to unleashing that sheer M force."

What is your dream car?
"Definitely a black Lamborgini Aventador."

Motivational Message:
"Women should find what drives their passions and not be limited from that because of gender norms. Fast cars make me feel empowered and liberated to stretch my own limits. Car communities have space for more than just girls in bikinis at a car wash, that over-sexualisation is stale, we're here and just as crazy obsessed with out own wheels more than ever!"

___________

"We salute the ladies back in 1956 for the courage they had offering up their lives for what they deserved and against amendments that were made to the law that affected them negatively. They planted a seed of courage for generations to come and we must continue to uplift and support women and men equally."
